CALLED TOGETHER

Called together, we’ve taken the dare,
to commit to a destiny shared,
diff’rent, diverse we may be,
but we see God’s plan for history:
a world reconciled and renewed!

This is God’s call, this is God’s way,
that we might show the light of God’s day,
divided world, uniting grace,
we live the signs of Christ in this place.

Called together, this journey we’re on
is the way of the Crucified One.
Justice and love are our song,
with those on the edge, we belong,
declaring God’s love is for all!

This is God’s call, this is God’s way,
that we might show the light of God’s day,
divided world, uniting grace,
we live the signs of Christ in this place.

Pilgrim people, the road is our call,
Spirit led, trav’ling light, risking all.
Paths of the past keep us true,
while fresh words and deeds spring anew
in worship and witness and care!

This is God’s call, this is God’s way,
that we might show the light of God’s day,
divided world, uniting grace,
we live the signs of Christ in this place.

And in God’s hands our future rests,
our hope is there in God’s faithfulness.
We live this gift, this blessed road,
this unity: the household of God!

IF YOU LOVE ME

If you love me, follow in my footsteps.
If you love me, follow in my way.
For God will send the Spirit of truth,
and I will be revealed in you.
This is how we walk on the mercy road.

If you love me, find a new direction.
If you love me, take another road.
For as I live you too shall live
in all the love that you can give.
This is how we walk on the mercy road.

I will give you refuge,
lift you up in your despair,
and you will be the same
for those I give you.

If you love me, love as I have loved you.
If you love me, love each other well.
For I shall live in all you do;
live in the love made known in you.
This is how we walk on the mercy road.

If you love me, love my whole creation.
If you love me, love this planet well.
My heart still beats in all you see,
in life and land, in air and sea.
This is how we walk on the mercy road.

Words by Andrew Williams. Music: Nettleton (Public domain.) May also be sung to Abbotsleigh 87.87D (Together in Song #153)

Liturgical use: Response to the Word, Mission, Sending Out

Scripture reference/s: Year B: Mark 6:1-13

New words to familiar hymn tunes - great for congregations who struggle a bit with learning new melodies. The words are an affirmation of both the church's diversity and it's common identity and call. The focus is on Christ who leads, heals and reconciles. A stirring sending out song.

IN A CHURCH THAT’S MOVING FORWARD

In a church that’s moving forward,
this is where we long to be.
In a church with gifts abounding
and the grace to set them free.
In a church of many cultures
in a church both old and young,
in a church of many accents
when the song of Christ is sung.

With a Lord who leads the mission
for a people on the way,
with a Lord who’s healing blindness
lets the voiceless have their say;
with a Lord of every nation
with a Lord of every place,
with a Lord who shines compassion
on to every tribe and race.

On a road that leads to wholeness
when we’re broken or unsure,
on a road to understanding,
where division finds a cure;
on a road where all may travel
on a road where many roam,
on a road we walk together
as we make our journey home.

STEP BY STEP BY STEP

Step by step by step by step
we tread the path you lay in front of us.
Patiently we wait the moment.
“Now”, you say, with timing consummate.

You know when, for you know best,
our view is small but yours is wonderful.

Time and space to play our part
in your amazing, brilliant spectacle,
intricate and yet expansive,
astoundingly hopeful chronicle.

The creation drama is your
eternal unfolding guarantee.

We will wander lost and lonely
when we choose to travel selfishly.
Blown like leaves in stormy winds
until your Spirit fills our destiny.

Jesus, we labour in vain
to build our lives, unless you’re building them.
